Safe & Active Transportation

"Three of the things I have heard most about during my time as a Councillor and now as Mayor have centred around road safety - slowing traffic down in our neighbourhoods, focusing on people ahead of cars through a complete streets strategy and investments in cycling and trail infrastructure. I am committed to seeing the City of Kitchener make progress in these areas important to you."
As I hear from residents throughout the city, pedestrian, cyclist and driver safety is a primary concern throughout our community.  We need to increase our focus on ensuring residents of all ages can travel throughout our neighbourhoods more safely – whether by foot, bicycle, transit, or car.

Here is my five-point plan:

  1. Work with the Region of Waterloo to plan and build a minimum grid of protected bike lanes.
  2. Investigate reducing speed limits on our neighbourhood streets.
  3. Lobby the province to allow cameras to catch people speeding on regional roads in school zones.
  4. Improve sidewalk snow clearing, including at regional transit stops.
  5. Improve pedestrian connections to LRT and bus stops.
