On Stronger Neighbourhoods
"I want us to have safe, diverse and caring neighbourhoods, where we ensure we provide services for our youngest to our oldest and for our most needy to our most successful. I am committed to ensuring that we have the kinds of community facilities necessary such as community centres, arenas, libraries and parks and trails to encourage participation and healthy lifestyles for all residents."
Over the past four years, we've done a lot to strengthen our neighbourhoods through the national, award-winning #lovemyhood strategy. Now that we have laid the foundation, we must continue to build on the work that has already been achieved.
Together, we will:
Together, we will:
- Expand the city’s Neighbourhood Action Plan program to more neighbourhoods across the city including additional neighbourhood liaison supports for those communities that need them the most.
- Create a #LoveMyHood micro-dog park program to create more of these parks across the city.
- Complete an update of the Leisure Facility Master Plan. I remain committed to completing the Doon-Pioneer Park Community Centre expansion and proceeding with the Mill Courtland Community Centre expansion, the construction of two new community centres in the southwest area of the city (Rosenberg and Tartan Avenue) and a new Rockway Senior’s Centre.
- Launch a Grandparents Day initiative and other opportunities for intergenerational programming.
- Develop an Active Kitchener initiative to encourage healthy lifestyles from our youngest to our oldest residents.
